The paper is an overview and state of the art of sociolinguistic studies and dialect studies on Arabic urban vernaculars. It focuses on the issues of religious and communal variation as well as on the impact of migration upon Arabic urban vernaculars. It presents a preliminary typology of Arabic urban settings. |
