This report discusses (1) whether or not the incidence of Paragonimus infection in Eriocheir crabs had a seasonal Variation, (2) if there was any relationship between the incidence of infection and the size of the crab. The results showed that: the incidence of infection showed two peaks, i. e., one in February-March (early spring) and the other in August-September (late summer to early autumn). The incidence of 49.0% in September is the highest. Regarding the intensity of infection in the crabs, no noticeable seasonal pattern was found. But the intensity was greater in September to November. Both the incidence and intensity of infection steadily increased with the size of the crab. The incidence of infection in Eriocheir crabs not only showed seasonal fluctuations, but also simultaneously increased with the size of the crab. (Author) |
