Pseudonmyxoma peritonei - a case report
Abstract/OtherAbstract :
Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a rare and poorly understood clinical condition characterized by the accumulation of abundant mucinous material with the peritoneal cavity. We report a case of an 18-year-old female that presented initially with signs and symptoms of an acute appendicitis. At the first surgery, a ruptured appendix was found. When she subsequently presented with abdominal distension and pain, the findings at surgery were those of PMP. A review of the literature on this condition is also presented.

Nigerian Journal of Surgical Sciences Vol. 15(2) 2005: 78-80
