OSHADHI : A Biodiversity Information System

The economic importance and uses of the large number of plant species of India make it essential for their biodiversity to be conserved. In order to undertake the steps for biodiversity conservation such as identification of species and monitoring of climatic conditions, it is essential to efficiently manage the vast amount of biodiversity related data. This data includes taxonomic data, geographic data, bibliographic data and experts data. In this paper, we present an object-oriented model for biodiversity databases, and describe the design and implementation of OSHADHI, a biodiversity information system that implements the proposed model.
