The risk factors of coronary heart disease: high blood pressure, elevated blood lipids, and inactivity are compounded in overweight persons. Assessed in the present study was the effect of prescribing and exercise prescription with a weight management regimen on the above mentioned risk factors. In addition, nutritional attrition and attitudinal changes were evaluated. For the purpose of research four groups were evaluated: an exercise-diet, diet, exercise and control group. One hundred and eighteen persons selected the group of their choice. Due to lake of male participation, only females were included in the data analysis. Variables measured were assessed through analysis of covariance using age, initial body weigh, and treatment compliance of the covariates. Adding an exercise prescription to a weight management regimen did improve nutritional adherence through increases weight loss and improved compliance. Coronary risk factors were variable affected by the combination of treatments but not significantly, as were the attitudinal measures. Except for compliance, all factors were affected most by diet alone. In conclusion, more significant support may have resulted had the subjects been randomly assigned to groups, if the duration of the prescribed exercise had been increased., Master of Science; |
