EFI Proceedings No. 35. NEWFOR - New forests for Europe: Afforestation at the Turn of the Century. Freiburg, DE, 16 - 17 Feb. 2000, 129 - 140, In the strategic use of remote sensing for the afforestation purposes the focus is on regional to continental levels with equivalent mapping scales from 1:50000 to 1:5 million. Generic remote sesning methods can be applied for land cover mapping and land cover change mapping with a special reference to afforestation. The operative use has a local perspective with an equivalent mapping scale of approximately 1:5000. Specific remote sensing methods for afforestation purposes are needed in the operative use., In the strategic use of remote sensing for the afforestation purposes the focus is on regional to continental levels with equivalent mapping scales from 1:50000 to 1:5 million.
