The rater's role in performance appraisal is pivotal. Providing consistent feedback and winning the trust of the employee by honest and open verbal exchange are deciding factors in the overall success of the appraisal program. The manager must be trained to perform evaluations skillfully and with a commitment to the employee and to the organization. In addition, the appraiser must recognize that actively attempting to improve appraisal skills is a key responsibility of a good manager. |
