Abstract/OtherAbstract:
Community IV antibiotic therapy is known in the UK as OPAT (Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy), or OHPAT, which I prefer as it includes home treatment. This term originated in the USA, where OPHAT has been a well-established practice for many years (Tice et al, 2004). Over the last decade there has been a noticeable growth in OPHAT services in the UK, although the way in which they are organized and managed can vary quite considerably.
