This article represents the proceedings of a symposium presented at the 158th Annual Meeting of the American Psychiatric Association held in Atlanta, Georgia, on May 24, 2005. The organizer/chairman was Bankole A. Johnson, DSc, MD, PhD. The presentations included the following: (1) Neuropharmacological Basis of Alcohol Dependence, by George F.
