Abstract/OtherAbstract:
Scalable units for building cardiac tissue are created from biodegradable elastomeric polymers by L. E. Freed and co-workers on page 7202. The multilayered scaffolds are fabricated by pairwise stacking of heart-cell scaffolds with internal pore architectures and perfusable microvessels with rapidly degrading interfaces. This platform supports viable heart cells in vitro and, if validated in vivo, may aid in the regenerative repair of vascularized tissue.
