Fencing away inner Tampa bay from the open sea, St. Petersburg's historical Vinoy Resort and Hotel was the site to visit this winter for important new discussions in the field of urology. Along with prostate cancer, which has concerned older men and their physicians for decades, urinary incontinence and sexual health are two topics enjoying increasing awareness and treatment-seeking behavior in the overall adult and older population, as was further demonstrated during the oral and poster presentations of this year's Society for Urodynamics & Female Urology (SUFU) winter meeting in St. Petersburg, Florida. Cold weather for Florida and heavy downpours accompanied the meeting, in which important topics were debated, as will be apparent by checking the Expert Insight interviews with Dr. Howard B. Goldman, Dr. Ervin Kokjancic and Dr. Chris Constantinou that will be available in the Timely Topics in Medicine-Urology website. However, reaching conclusions on controversial issues is outside the scope of this report, which aims to briefly summarize news on treatment for common urological disorders that were reported and discussed during the meeting. |
