Stable and active Ru olefin metathesis catalyst bearing a sterically reduced NHC ligand was synthesized. Upon action of pyridine, forms complex , the first example of an Ru-indenylidene catalyst bearing a labile pyridine ligand and a sterically less demanding NHC ligand.
