A multidisciplinary total quality management (TQM) environment committee was formed to create a more accessible, home-like environment for patients on a geriatric rehabilitation unit. Problems in semiprivate rooms related to wheelchair use and age-related changes in the elderly were identified. After using the TQM process to find solutions to these problems, the committee remodeled two semiprivate rooms. Surveys indicate improvement in accessibility, storage, lighting, appearance, and cleanliness. |
