The beautiful resort island of Awaji, Japan was recently host to an international gathering of scientists interested in the physical, biochemical and biological aspects of components of the eukaryotic cell nucleus. The meeting featured speakers from many centers of research excellence in Japan as well as from around the world and was characterized by a unique focus on quantitative methods of analysis as applied to chromatin and chromosomes - termed "The Genofield". The meeting was organized by Professors Yasushi Hiraoka, Hitoshi Kurumizaka and Akatsuki Kimura.
