Abstract/OtherAbstract:
When considering the long history of management, the manager as a facilitator is a relatively new concept. It takes on added importance because facilitation is a key element of the quality movement. By definition, to facilitate means "to make easy." Thus, the facilitator meets the requirements of his or her customers, i.e., the team, and makes it easy for them to succeed. This represents a major shift from the traditional role of the manager. The real challenge for many managers is to make the transformation from being the person in charge to the person who serves others so they can succeed.
