Abstract/OtherAbstract:
At its March 2001 meeting, the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure adopted guidelines relating to physicians accepting gifts from industry, as well as guidelines for the use of controlled substances for the treatment of chronic pain. These guidelines were presented in a report to the KMA Board of Trustees during its April 4, 2001 meeting, and are being published in the Journal to assist physicians in dealing with these two important, but often confusing, issues. The report is being presented in two parts. The section relating to gifts to physicians was published in the June issue of the Journal. Guidelines on the use of controlled substances in treating chronic pain will be addressed in this issue.
