ABSTRACT: A 72-year-old white woman was admitted to the hospital for mitral valve replacement with a metallic valve. A few days after surgery, the patient experienced a sudden cardiac arrest and died because of the intrapleural rupture of a pulmonary arteriovenous fistula.
