The present paper is a review of investigations concerning the pathogenesis of chronic active hepatitis (CAH). After a brief reexamination of the classification and etiology of CAH, details are given regarding the immunologic aspects of postviral CAH and of CAH considered as autoimmune. The work is a critical analysis of the mechanisms of both cellular immunity and humoral immunity, as well as of possible genetic disorders of the immune response. |
