The readers of Acta Dermatovenerologica Croatica are warmly invited to the 7th EADV Spring Symposium to be held in Cavtat near Dubrovnik. The Croatian Dermatovenereological Society of the Croatian Medical Association with 116 years of dermatovenereological tradition is proud to be Local Organizer on this occasion. The EADV Spring Symposium has become a nice tradition of bringing together dermatologists and venereologists from all over Europe and the world. Therefore, Croatia is proud to host this major event for the first time and to welcome EADV on our home soil. The 7th EADV Spring Symposium will run under the logo "Harmony in Dermatology and Venereology", inspired by the need of coexistence of both dermatology and venereology, which has been fostered in our Journal. Scientific Highlights This 7th EADV Spring Symposium will bring together a rich scientific program emphasizing the profound and complex influence of skin health on all the aspects of human life. Prevention as well as management of various dermatoses and venereal diseases will give an opportunity for physicians, scientists, and patients to meet and share the perspective of dermatology and venereology. The Local Organizing Committee and Scientific Committee will invest all their efforts to create an unforgettable professional and social atmosphere for every participant. The Cavtat and Dubrovnik surroundings are beautiful in spring. In addition, there are other, more distant regions that offer various possibilities to enjoy picturesque landscape and historical monuments. We invite you to discover and enjoy the rich cultural heritage of our tumultuous history at the crossroad of civilizations. Cavtat is the home town of the famous Croatian painter Vlaho Bukovac, who belonged to the Munich circle of the famous 19th century painters. The Zagreb period (1894-1898) was the most active part of his life. He brought fresh ideas to the artistic colony of the town, but as he was the only Croat artist educated in France he was soon confronted by the advocates of the Vienna and Munich schools. He made the famous curtain for the large paintings made for the Croatian National Theater, Gunduli?'s Dream and Dubravka. The Cavtat period (1898-1903) is characterized by his search for a new means of expression and new coloristic solutions. Bukovac died in Prague on April 23, 1922. His work comprises about 400 portraits and more than 150 other paintings and compositions. Participants of the Symposium will have an opportunity to enjoy in some of his paintings at Bukovac Gallery in Cavtat. In Cavtat one can experience the warm hospitality the Croatians have to offer, along with majestic mountains and the breathtaking shores of the Adriatic Sea. We also point out that Cavtat (antique Epidaurus) is a world-known 'Pearl of the Mediterranean', situated in Dalmatia, the southern region of Croatia, on the famous Adriatic Sea, internationally renowned for the breathtaking sceneries of its beautiful coast, thousands of islands and peninsulas overwhelmed with rich and unique vegetation. Bernard Shaw once said: "Those who seek paradise on Earth should come to see Dubrovnik!" Dubrovnik, a magnificent city from the UNESCO List of Cultural Heritage will amuse you with its almost 2 km long city walls, which are among the best preserved and most attractive on the planet, and walking along them is an absolute must. The defenses were built between the 8th and 16th century. The walls were strengthened by many towers and bastions, and were never breached - the Republic of Dubrovnik only fell after Napoleon's armies had been invited in, on the condition to respect its independence. History meets in Dubrovnik from the Antique Greek-Roman period to the dynamic Mediterranean atmosphere nowadays. Social Program Take the opportunity to visit the Croatian historical cities, stunning countryside and coastline. A variety of tours has been organized for Symposium participants, ranging from guided tour of Dubrovnik, wine-tasting at Peljesac vineyards and visit to Trsteno-Ston, the oldest botanical garden in Croatia, to a tour of the Elaphite Islands. Let your stay in Cavtat convince you to attend the Symposium as I tried with my writing to persuade you! Professor Jasna Lipozenci? Chairwoman of the 7th EADV Spring Symposium. |
