For the past several months, many of the media items about GM crops and foods have been-as usual- about regulation, politics and their consequences. : Perhaps the most dramatic was the announcement by BASF, the world's largest chemical company and one of the major industrial concerns in Germany, that it would cease forthwith conducting any further R & D on GM crops intended for the European market, would withdraw its Amflora potato and henceforth transfer all its GM development work to North America, probably to the Research Triangle in North Carolina. |
