Rebuilding faces from skulls presented for forensic identification or of historical importance has been carried out for many years using standardized methods. However, the reproduction of the face of a 3500-year-old mummy still enclosed in its cartonnage proved to be an unusual challenge. The face had to be rebuilt without opening the cartonnage to ensure preservation of the remains. Consequently, the method devised involved using the latest medical imaging technology to determine the shape of the skull. |
