A 60-year-old woman with advanced Huntington's disease and a recent episode of aspiration pneumonia presented with erythema, edema, and blistering of the right forearm. An 18-gauge peripheral intravenous catheter had been partially displaced from the same site 10 hours earlier, resulting in infusion of an unknown quantity of parenteral-nutrition solution (80 g of dextrose per liter, 22 g of amino acids per liter, 200 kcal of lipids per liter, and 750 mOsm per liter) into the interstitial space.
