IN WAJM VOLUME 28 NO. 5 Methicillin resistant staphyloco-ccus aureus (MRSA), a major public health challenge is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Taiwo (page 281) brings us up to date on the subject. Can palm wine in Africa be neglected? Mavioga and associates provide a fairly comprehensive analysis of palm wine in Gabon (page 291). Abdu and associates (page 295) report on the favourable response of anaemia of chronic kidney disease among Northern Nigerians, the main limitation being cost. The types and prevalence of nosocomial and community-acquired infections in Ghana leading hospital are presented by Newman on page 300. Can children (and their parents) in Africa benefit from ambulatory paediatric surgery? Given the right anaesthetic backup, Imarengbaye and associates (page 304) conclude that they can. Management of splenic injuries, largely a male affliction is faced with delayed presentation and dearth of appropriate facilities. Iribhogbe and Okolo proffer solutions on page 308. Osifo and Oku examine the pathetic issue of abuse of children especially those with surgical conditions (page 313). Relatedly on training, Ocheke and associates (page 323) think that our future gynaecologists stand the risk of not being able to perform vaginal hysterectomy reason, inadequate exposure. Oladapo and associates on page 327 address the difficulty in predicting before surgery which foetus would require intensive resuscitative measures and neonatal support at birth. Also in this issue are reports of aggressive angiomyxoma in women (Ohene- Yeboah and Bewtra, page 333) and induced abortion gone awry (Nkor and associates page 337).
