Abstract/OtherAbstract:
We report a case of a 9-year-old girl presenting with hematochezia after 2 normal prior colonoscopies having an ectopic right kidney showing increased uptake on a Tc-99m pertechnetate (8.3 mCi) scan, diagnosed as a Meckel's diverticulum. Laparoscopy performed for resection of Meckel's diverticulum showed an ectopic right kidney subsequently confirmed by intravenous urography and sonography (images not presented). Preoperative abdominal radiograph shows soft-tissue density corresponding to the ectopic kidney in the right lower quadrant. This case serves as a reminder of one cause of a false-positive Meckel's diverticulum scan and emphasizes the importance of the critical review of prior imaging.
