Cytoskeleton-associated glycolipid (CAG) and its cell biological implication.

Previous immunohistochemical studies showed that galactocerebroside (GC) exists not only in the plasma membrane but also in a colchicine-sensitive microtubule-like cytoskeletal structure in various cultured cells and tissues. This distribution of galactocerebroside may also be true of other glycosphingolipids and, therefore, we called these glycolipids cytoskeleton-associated glycolipid (CAG). This article gives further precise morphological information on the location of CAG and discusses its cell biological and biochemical implications, considering CAG as a fundamental component of the cytoskeleton.
