A copper-mediated ligandless aerobic fluoroalkylation of aryl boronic acids under mild conditions was described, for the first time. The reaction tolerates a wide range of functional groups, thus allowing for further transformation. Mechanistic studies suggest that [RfCu] was the active copper species that formed the desired perfluoroalkylarenes and [RfCu] was generated from [PhCu] either by a oxidative-addition/reductive-elimination mechanism or by a nucleophilic substitution via a halogen "ate'' inte-rmediate. |
