Isolated reports of patients, including aviators, with congenital complete heart block suggest a benign prognosis. However, prospective studies of adolescents and adults with congenital complete heart block reveal an unpredictable incidence of impairment of consciousness and sudden death. Congenital complete heart block is, therefore, a contraindication to professional pilot status. |
