Bronchial atresia is a rare but important congenital pathology that could be readily mistaken for a pulmonary mass. We report the PET/CT characteristics of bronchial atresia in a 63-year-old woman with no prior history of cancer who was referred for evaluation of a solitary pulmonary nodule observed on a prior diagnostic chest CT. PET/CT images demonstrated an opacity in the superior segment of the right lower lobe of the lung with no focal increase in FDG uptake. The intensity of FDG uptake within this lesion was less than that of the adjacent mediastinal blood pool. |
