Antiplatelet agents have become the cornerstone pharmacological therapy for the acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Used in combination with percutaneous coronary intervention, antithrombotic therapy has had a major positive impact on outcomes in this patient group [1-3]. The relatively high frequency of recurrent thrombosis with single antiplatelet therapy has necessitated the need for more intensive approaches, with dual antiplatelet therapy (aspirin and P2Y(12) antagonists) becoming the standard of care for ACS. © 2012 International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis. |
