Preterm birth affects 8-12% of deliveries and is the highest cause of neonatal mortality and morbidity(1) . Rates of premature delivery are rising worldwide, partly due to increased rates of medically indicated preterm birth, but also due to increases in spontaneous pre-term labour(1) . Use of antenatal glucocorticoids to mature the fetal lung has transformed prognosis for neonates born before 34 weeks gestation. © 2012 Blackwell Publishing Ltd. |
