The 'accordion phenomenon' is a reversible mechanical distortion of tortuous arteries mimicking spasm or dissection. This phenomenon, observed during percutaneous coronary intervention, is believed to be due to a stiff guide wire. It is essential to differentiate the accordion effect from dissection, spasm and thrombus to avoid unnecessary dilation. We report a case of 'accordion phenomenon' which was induced by a soft guide wire and completely disappeared after a complete withdrawal of the guide wire. |
