Accelerated cholesterol synthesis in the monocytes of young myocardial infarction survivors.

Abstract/OtherAbstract:
The substantial role of monocytes in atherogenesis has been demonstrated recently. The feedback regulation of endogenous cholesterol synthesis in monocytes of young myocardial infarction survivors was determined and compared to that of age- and sex-matched controls. The cholesterol synthesis in monocytes of one half of patients was three times higher compared to that of controls whereas the other half showed a rate within the range of controls.
