AIDS advocates now say they look back at the late 1990s as a time when they never had it so good: new antiretroviral regimens turned HIV infection into a chronic rather than fatal disease, and funding increased each year. But the recent retrenchment has given rebirth to protests, rallies, and civil disobedience. |
