Abstract/OtherAbstract:
This year, the INRC was held as an official satellite symposium of the XIIIth International Congress of Pharmacology in Munich, Germany. The annual INRC meetings are devoted to all aspects of opioid research encompassing basic molecular neuropharmacology as well as behavioral and clinical studies. The organizing committee (Volker H??llt, R??diger Schulz and Walter Zieglg??nsberger) compiled a program consisting of four plenary lectures, eight symposia and one workshop over a period of four and a half days, with morning and afternoon sessions. About 200 posters were presented. Abstracts of the lectures and the posters were available on the conference web site (http://www.med.uni-magdeburg.de/fme/institute/ipt), about eight weeks before the meeting. This was useful for the 300 participants preparing for the conference. The abstract and program, as well as information about future meetings, are available on the INRC web page http://osu.com.okstate.edu/inrc/index.htm. The program, which was almost exclusively focused on opioid research, was supplemented with four excellent plenary lectures on different topics of general importance: gene targeting (G Sch??tz, DKFZ, Heidelberg, Germany); potassium channels (O Pongs, Zentrum fur Molekulare Neurobiologie, Hamburg, Germany); Alzheimer's disease (K Beyreuther, University of Heidelberg, Germany); and, glycine neurotransmission (H Betz, Heidelberg, Germany). This report reviews a selection of the symposia presentations.
