NZNO is urging its members to vote "yes" in the upcoming
citizen's referendum against the repeal of Section 59 of the
Crimes' Act. The repeal removed the defence of reasonable force, in
some circumstances, for any parent who was criminally charged for
hitting a child. NZNO supported the repeal which was consistent with the
UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. NZNO chief executive Geoff Annals says the "yes" vote is the position of most leading child welfare Organisations in the country. More information can be found on p23 of this issue. |
