Members working for Maori and iwi health providers, along with
employer representatives, gathered in marae and other venues around the
country last month to plait muka strands from harakeke. All the strands
will be gathered together and woven around a large paua, as a symbol of
the beauty, integrity and justice of the Te Rau Kokiri campaign for pay
equity for these health workers.
The final woven representation wile be presented to Associate Minister of Health and co-leader of the Maori Party Tariana Turia at a ceremony later this month. Turia has been a supporter of TRK since its inception.
