The Journal of Rehabilitation Research and Development (JRRD) has
accomplished a lot in 2011, but we must start by thanking the 339
reviewers and the wonderful members of the JRRD Editorial Board who
volunteer their time and knowledge to review each submission. JRRD
production would not be possible without their support and enthusiasm.
As always, we thank our readership for their continued support over the
past years and into 2012.
As readers may have noticed, the most dramatic change to JRRD for 2012 is the new design for the masthead and contents page. We are also implementing color sidebars in the top corner of each page to help easily differentiate sections within the hardcopy journal. The last page of each article also includes a second logo: beginning this year, every article published in JRRD will be analyzed with iThenticate (http://www.ithenticate.com/), a scholarly comparison database that searches for incidences of plagiarism.
The icons next to each article on the contents page represent JRRD's continued effort to provide value-added content for each article. We will continue to have PDF and HTML versions of every article freely available online; beginning in 2012, all articles will also be discussed in the JRRD Podcast and will be available through the JRRD Slideshow Project (JSP). The JSP provides freely downloadable PowerPoint slides featuring pertinent information from the article that readers are welcome to include in their own presentations. Additional icons on the contents page identify whether articles include supplemental content (including audio and video) and RSS updates. An icon key is available at the end of the contents page.
We will not only continue to offer the JRRD At a Glance section in Spanish on our Web site, but soon we will also make them available in podcast form. This year, also look online for the JRRD At a Glance section available in both Traditional and Simplified Chinese!
JRRD also made its final push on the "Go Green" project. Executive order 13589 promotes efficient Government spending, including a goal to reduce printing by 20 percent. In January, we reduced our mailing list by over 1,000 subscribers, saving JRRD over $50,000 per year.
Finally, the JRRD Web site continues to grow in content, accessibility, and popularity. In 2011, the Web site had 14 million page views and 6.4 million article downloads. Forgot our address online and need to find us in a hurry? Enter "JRRD" into any search engine, and we will be the top link.
Thank you to all who volunteer your time and expertise to keep JRRD excellent. We hope to continue to expand these relationships and cultivate new ones. As always, we welcome your input. Thank you.
