While this was a pretty mild winter for everyone, spring is
definitely here and with it comes a desire for things to be new and
fresh. As the ADAA continues to implement its resolutions for the New
Year, things are indeed looking exciting!
Have you checked out the new website? While still "under construction," it has a great new look that reflects what's happening within the ADAA. Don't forget about the free online CE that you have access to. Have you joined us on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn, or subscribed to the weekly newsletter, 24/7? There's lots going on, so checkit out!
In this issue, you'll find the preliminary guide for this year's Annual Session. You'll notice that the governance schedule is a bit leaner as we work to be fiscally responsible. The upside is that this compressed schedule will free you to attend more educational seminars, visit the Exhibit Hall or just take in what San Francisco has to often There is also an "add--on" course being offered this year. Designed for state and local leaders, but open to anyone, this optional Leadership Summit will provide some great resources and training. You won't want to miss this, so plan for it now as seating will be limited! Registration will open soon for Annual Session, so don't miss out--it will be a great meeting in a great city.
With Annual Session approaching, that also means that the application period for Officers, Trustees and Council Members is upon us. If you are interested in joining the leadership team of the ADAA, applications can be downloaded from our website at http://www.dentalassistant.org/Content/Details/TrusteeOfficerForms. The deadline to apply is June 30, 2012 (deadline includes Council Membership).
ADAA is proud to announce the Merit Scholar Award, which was developed in partnership with Hu-Friedy. It will award one student from every CODA-approved dental assisting program for exemplary clinical and leadership skills. I'm very pleased that outstanding students across the country will be recognized for their accomplishments.
From what I have seen, the dental assisting students I have met around the country hold great promise for the future of dental assisting. There are SADAA Chapters popping up around the country. When these students graduate and become our colleagues, they will be a wonderful addition to our organization and the profession. These future leaders are bright, passionate and ready to move dental assisting into the next phase, which is exciting and reassuring. I hope you welcome them warmly and help them as they get their feet on the ground in their new career.
Kudos to all of you who participated in DARW and Give Kids a Smile/Children's Dental Health Month. Dental assistants are compassionate, giving and wonderful people who bring fabulous things to the dental patient. I am amazed at the passion, dedication and perseverance that you, the ADAA members across the country, have shown and I am proud to count myself as your peer.
