Full Text: NZNO is in the first stages of introducing its healthy workplace project to the primary health care (PHC) and private hospital sectors. Industrial adviser with responsibility for both these sectors, Chris Wilson, said the first stage of the healthy workplace projects was to raise members' awareness of the seven elements of safe staffing and how these contributed to achieving healthy workplaces. The second stage is to map worksites against the seven elements and work with members on a plan to resolve any issues that may be indentified. Ultimately, NZNO is keen to implement joint NZNO/employer healthy workplace forums in as many workplaces as possible, and wants members to be fully involved and take ownership of the project.


In PHC, workplaces with more than ten members will be targeted and in both sectors the project will be discussed whenever the opportunity arises, eg professional forums, education sessions and workplace meetings.

NZNO has produced a range of resources to support the project, including a poster on the seven elements of safe staffing (above), a power point presentation on the history of safe staffing and healthy workplaces, and a sector-specific healthy workplace pamphlet.
