Prison nurses have voted overwhelmingly in favour of their new
collective employment agreement which includes a new pay scale for
registered and enrolled nurses and delivers a pay increase of 3.75 per
cent pay rise over the term of the agreement. (See Kai Tiaki Nursing New
Zealand, April 2012, p36 for further details.) Seventy per cent of NZNO members voted at ratification meetings held last month and NZNO advocate Chris Wilson said there was a lot of positive feedback on the settlement. Around 140 members are covered by the new agreement, which came into effect from the date of ratification. The first pay increase of 1.5 per cent is backdated to March 9. 2012. Bargaining has been initiated for the 10 prison nurses employed by private prison provider SERCO at the Mt Eden Corrections Facility. These nurses are on individual employment agreements with high baser rates than Department of Corrections prison nurses but no penal rates. |
