This special issue contains highlights from the 2008 Association of Women's Rights in Development (AWID) Forum held in South Africa on "The Power of Movements", which was dedicated to serving progressive women's rights movements. The journal captures the range of issues covered: women's organising in rights and social movements from grassroots to UN level, multiple and various histories of women struggles in all regions, intergenerational dialogue, disability, fundamentalism, communication strategies, minority rights, sexual health and reproductive rights, union organising, gender-based violence and HIV/AIDS.
