I I This new 45,000 square foot, 60-bed inpatient Recovery Center functions as a community psychiatric and crisis-care center for adult and pediatric patients with a range of disorders and acuities. While some patients may access care or psychiatric emergency care by walking in, others will be transported in by emergency services or by law enforcement, so multiple entrances and appropriate security are incorporated into the design.

The project seeks to create a healing environment through the appropriate use of color, texture, light, and the placement of community areas and healing gardens. However, while project aesthetics were an important consideration, the center's diverse patient population and paramount concern for staff and patient safety made the use of certain specialized construction materials, interior design approaches, and furnishings a necessity.

The project was delivered through a design/build project management process, and was fully compliant with AHCA and AIA Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospital and Healthcare Facilities.

Because the center is located in a residential area, the design needed to blend with the surrounding community. And, since the site contained many mature trees that were protected by law, the siting of the project was very complex.
