Full Text: Introducing the 2010-2011 Board of Trustees

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN., RESIDENT NATALIE KAWECKYJ, CDA, LDARF, CDPMA, COA, COMSA, MADAA, BA, has been named national President of the American Dental Assistants Association (ADAA). She is the clinic coordinator and in charge of compliance for Children's Dental Services, a nonprofit community dental clinic serving underserved children throughout Minnesota.

Ms. Kaweckyj holds a BA in biology from Metro State University and is a past president of the Minnesota Educators of Dental Assistants. She is currently finishing her master's degree in public health with a focus on oral health education. Professionally she holds the ADAA's highest educational award, the Masters designation (MADAA), and is also a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), LDARF, CDPMA, COA and COMSA.

She is active in local, state and national dental assisting associations and has served as a three-term state president in addition to numerous other positions within the Minnesota Dental Assistants Association. She has been instrumental in the progression of the dental assisting profession in Minnesota and is currently serving as the state legislative chair and business secretary.

Nationally, Ms. Kaweckyj was elected Secretary of the ADAA in 2002, Seventh District Trustee in 2003 and 2006, Vice President in 2008, President-Elect in 2009 and is a past director of the ADAA Foundation. She has served on the ADAA Finance, Governance, Legislation, Annual Conference and Education Councils as well as the Information Technology committee. She has authored several ADAA courses, including the ADAA courses on Geriatric Dentistry, Oral Cancer Genetics, Oral Pathology, Practice Management and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Basics for the Dental Assistant. Ms. Kaweckyj was also one of the first Masters of the American Dental Assistants Association.

ALTA LOMA, CALIF., RESIDENT CLAUDIA POHL, CDA, RDA, BVEd, has been named national President-Elect of the ADAA. Ms. Pohl, a CDA for 35 years, has been active with the ADAA on the state level for thirty years and the national level for several years. Serving on various committees and as president of the California Dental Assistants Association and then as 12th District Trustee representing dental assistants in California, Nevada and Hawaii, she was then national secretary and has just completed a term as Vice President. After completing her year as President-Elect, she will serve as ADAA President in 2011-2012.

A graduate of California State San Bernardino with a degree in Vocational Education, she is RDA Program Director at Citrus College in Glendora, where she has been employed since 1999.

She is married to Michael Pohl, is the mother of Adam, Allison and Erin, and grandmother of Lorelai Pohl.

WINTER HAVEN, FLA., RESIDENT SUSAN REXROAT, CDA, CDPMA, has been elected Vice President of the ADAA. As Vice President, she will serve on the Board of Trustees and assist the president in administrative and cermonial capacities throughout the coming year.

Ms. Rexroat is a CDA and Certified Dental Practice Management Administrator (CDPMA), with a Masters in Administration of Educational Programs and Educational Leadership. She has been active with the ADAA on the national and state level serving on various national committees and as president of the Florida Dental Assistants Association She is currently serving as the state's Executive Secretary.

Married to Rex Rexroat, she is the mother of two, Elyn and Deon Rexroat, with three grandchildren. In addition to her duties as the Dental Assisting Program Administrator at Traviss Career Center, Lakeland, she found time to establish a clinic offering dental care to those "in need" in Polk County through the dental assisting program. She is also active in the county's annual Give Kids a Smile program.

BATTLE GROUND, ORE., RESIDENT BONNIE L. MARSHALL, CDA, EFDA, EFODA, MADAA, who has distinguished herself in the dental assisting field by becoming a Master of the ADAA, has been elected the association's national Secretary. As Secretary, she will be responsible for maintaining the ongoing records of all ADAA's national business meetings.

Ms. Marshall is an instructor and coordinator in the dental assisting program at Portland Community College. She serves as a consultant for the ADA Commission on accreditation, works for the Western Regional Testing Agency and serves on the DANB Radiology test construction committee. She has held many positions with the Oregon Dental Assistants Association, including that of president, and is currently serving as ODAA secretary. Bonnie completed two terms as Tenth District Trustee ending in 2009. In 2007, she was the recipient of the Sunstar Americas Award of Excellence for educators.

She is the mother of three children and nine grandchildren.

INDIANAPOIS, IND., RESIDENT, ANGELA M. SWATTS, CDA, EFDA, will continue to serve on the board as Immediate Past President of the ADAA. She will chair the Council on Finance and lend her support in other various capacities.
