We are deeply saddened by the recent death of Jerome D. Schein, a long-time member of our Editorial Board and a friend of the journal. Jerry was first listed as a member of the JRRD Editorial Board in 1988. His work in deafness research and the rehabilitation of those with hearing impairment improved the lives of countless people. He has authored more than 200 books, monographs, and refereed articles. Jerry was a Professor Emeritus of Sensory Rehabilitation at New York University and an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at the University of Alberta. He is the sole person to have held the only two endowed deafness-research chairs in the world: the Powrie V. Doctor Chair at Gallaudet University and the David Peikoff Chair at the University of Alberta. Jerry was elected a Fellow of the American Psychological Association in 1976 and received awards from the National Association of the Deaf, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Self Help for Hard of Hearing People, the Empire State Association for the Deaf, and many others. He will be sincerely missed not only by those of us here at JRRD but also by the entire sensory rehabilitation research community.
