UK All Party Parliamentary Group on Population, Development and
Reproductive Health, 2009 This report brings together expert testimony on maternal morbidity. It attempts to define and quantify it, and goes into detail on some of the related problems that women suffer. The report discusses structural reasons for these problems and offers solutions. The Group's recommendations include that 10% of official development aid be spent on sexual and reproductive health and rights, that child marriage and female genital mutilation be outlawed, that abortion be decriminalised, that financial barriers to equitable health care be removed, that there is expansion and registration of health workers who are "task shifting", that maternal health data collection be improved and that country league tables be introduced to make governments accountable. The Group hopes the report will be a catalyst for political commitment and improvement for women's reproductive health worldwide.
